about

"Chloe's Brain (Radio Edit)" by Nick Carlisle. The full version of "Chloe's Brain" is taken from the Nick Carlisle album "Bloody Saturnalia", released 24th November 2023 on The Colour Inverted Records.

“With 'Chloe's Brain', I was trying to base a song on those horrible fever dreams I would occasionally get as a child. The sort of dream where you wake up screaming as the wall seems to recede into the distance; where you're kept awake by half-dreamt sped up and slowed down voices and disturbingly hard corners and sickly smooth objects press on your imagination. The song also loosely refers to Alice In Wonderland Syndrome as experienced by the artist Käthe Kollwitz. The mind can sometimes be the most frightening place to inhabit.” - Nick

lyrics

Chloe's Brain

Head in someone’s hand
Nothing in proportion
Expressionist and
Hard knocks coming down on me
The heat comes in the night
And puts me in the furnace
I’m done in and I don’t feel normal

Something in her brain
Is spilling on the page
To climb the walls again
The shadows form and play at being real
The night that never ends

Here Black Anna stands
And now she’s in the distance
My tunnel eyes see hands
Reaching for the void
The sufferers heap mountain high
Now tears roll down the walls
Their mournful song playing on repeat

Something in her brain
Is walking off the page
To climb the walls again
The mirror shifting near and far away
In the night that never ends
